Ava Sharifi: Modern Slavery: Mass Incarceration in America
The systems of oppression targeting minority groups have been transformed throughout time. We will be looking at an overview of American history, touching on the subjects of slavery, the Constitution, the Civil Rights Movement, and the criminal justice system. Then, we will look at the effects of politics within the formation of mass incarceration, and their ability to further discriminatory stereotypes. Furthermore, we will look into the life of a prisoner to understand the dehumanizing effects of prison. Finally, we will discuss potential solutions involving rehabilitation within prison systems and reform within our political systems.
