Montana Shakespeare in the Schools presents Macbeth at the Shane Center
Montana Shakespeare in the Schools will present a public performance of Macbeth at the Shane Lalani Center for the Arts in Livingston on Friday, November 9th, at 8:00 pm.
Montana Shakespeare in the Schools, a nationally recognized outreach program of MSU's Shakespeare in the Parks, is celebrating its 20th season with Shakespeare's wickedly suspenseful Macbeth, which will be presented to nearly 12,000 students in communities throughout Montana and Wyoming as a part of a 10-week fall tour. The Shane Center in Livingston is fortunate to host one of the three public performances of the Bard's most concise and brutal tragedy. Macbeth is a charismatic warrior who, at the urging of his ambition, his beloved wife, and some prophesying witches, murders his way to kingship and "dusty death."
Joel Jahnke, a professor at MSU since 1976, serves as artistic director for Montana Shakespeare in the Parks and its educational programs. According to Jahnke, the focus of the Schools program is to bring a shortened version of an entire Shakespeare play to high and middle school students who otherwise would have few, if any, opportunities to experience a quality live performance produced by professional company. Chicago based director Kevin Fox is directing this season's offering. Montana Shakespeare in the Parks resident designer Tom Watson has created a dynamic set that is evocative of popular graphic novel art, and costume designer Claudia Boddy returns again this season bring exciting Gothic-Celtic creations to stage. Mark Kuntz, the veteran of 17 tours with Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, will be playing the title role of Macbeth. This will be Mark's final tour for the company as well as his last as company manager.
Montana Shakespeare in the School's public performance of Macbeth will take place at the Shane Center in Livingston on Friday, November 9th at 8 pm. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased at 406-222-1420, theshanecenter.org, or at the Dulcie Theatre Box Office at 415 East Lewis Street from 11am to 5pm Tuesday through Friday.
