BILL EVANS 77TH BIRTHDAY TAP DANCE SHOW!

AS220, 95 Empire Street, Providence, Rhode Island

Bill Evans Rhythm Tap EnsembleBill Evans, Kristen Socci, Courtney World,
and Jazz Keyboard Artist Greg Woodsbie

For the third consecutive year, dance icon Bill Evans will celebrate his birthday by doing what he loves most at the AS220 Black Box Theatre. He will be joined by tap artists Kristen Socci and Courtney World, and jazz pianist Greg Woodsbie, all of whom performed with him  at AS220 last April. Also, Mark Yonally, one of the rising tap stars on the world stage, and a former Evans student and company member, will be dancing with him again for the first time in a decade.

Mark Yonally is choreographer and artistic director of Chicago Tap Theatre, one of the most critically well-regarded companies in the country. Mark has developed a national and international reputation as a performer, with solo performances in Chicago, Kansas City, Albuquerque, Amsterdam and Paris. He has been blessed to have Sarah Petronio, Dianne Walker, Bill Evans and Billy Siegenfeld as mentors.

Evans was named one of the worlds three favorite tap artists in the first Dance Magazine Readers Poll.

"modern-rhythmic dance barrier-breaker Bill Evans is an experience of intimate and symphonic proportions".  His breadth of experience in ballet, modern and tap dance has molded Evans into a uniquely lyrical-percussive artist. And while fusion might be an easy buzzword to slap onto his merging of styles, he more accurately melds each discipline into the other so that only movement-with no titles attached-remains. --Lucia Mauro, Chicago Tribune

Each individual dance is a jewel on its own and a shiny puzzle piece in the interlocking world. Lauren Whalen, Chicago Theatre Beat

The entertaining and thought-provoking program will include choreographed and improvised rhythm tap works, both reconstructed classics created by the African American masters who originated this art form and new cutting-edge works by Evans and Yonally that are moving tap forward through fusion with theatre and other dance styles.
