SYNOPSIS:

Robert, a mathematician and highly recognized genius in his field, has recently died. He suffered from mental illness for many years and his daughter, Catherine, dropped out of college to care for him full time.  She may be a mathematical genius in her own right, but potentially suffers from the same mental illness. As preparations are made for Robert's funeral, Catherine's older sister Claire returns home to help. The sisters have been estranged since their father first became ill. Hal, a mathematician and former student of Robert's, offers to try to work through some of Robert's later unpublished work. Instead, he and Catherine end up falling for each other. Catherine gives Hal a proof of a mathematical theorem that mathematicians had thought impossible. It is a sensational discovery, and Catherine stuns everyone by claiming she is the one who wrote the proof. But is she?

As the mystery unfolds, the playwright explores issues of love, responsibility, family and whether genius and madness are inexorably linked. Working through these issues could prove to be as difficult, and just as uncertain, as establishing the truth of a mathematical proof.
