Fiddler on the Roof
Fiddler on the Roof is an enduring musical whose story resonates with many challenges displaced peoples and immigrants experience today; safe refuge from persecution and a better life. Fiddler on the Roof is adapted from the folktales of Sholem Aleichem including Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Dairyman.) Set in 1905 Russia, it tells the story of Tevyas struggle to hold on to his traditions in a changing world. With music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, the Broadway Tony Award winner in 1964 surpassed all previous Broadway musicals by running more than 3,000 performances and has been revived on Broadway five times.
