Valve Sizing, Selection and Application
Valve Sizing, Selection and Application
There is more to valve selection than matching pipe size; this presentation will provide an engineering overview for industrial and municipal valve applications. Control valve selection is often the weak link in process control, but can have the greatest impact on performance, operating cost and efficiency. We will look at the effect of three critical factors: sizing, performance and installed gain, and will follow with an operational control valve demonstration unit to help illustrate these points. Selecting valves for surge control in pump systems can be a challenge for even the most experienced designer. Surge wave theory, propagation and resulting implications in pumping systems will be presented. Causes of surge pressure will be discussed, along with recommendations for identification and mitigation.
Co-presented by: Jack Herald, Vice President of Industrial Sales, Dezurik. Jack received his Engineering Degree from Saint Cloud State University. He has worked in the valve industry for over 20 years, is a past member of the ISA SP75 committee and developed one of the first PC based control valve sizing programs.
Sid Kruger, Municipal Regional Sales Manager, Dezurik. Sid received an Associate Degree in Instrumentation Technology from St. Cloud Technical and Community College, and has over 40 years of experience in the municipal industry.
