AXIAL TILT - A Grateful Dead Celebration at Jazzfest in New Orleans!
The Grateful Dead is a true American original. Born in San Francisco in 1965 and still creating music in various forms more than 50 years later, the Grateful Dead represents the most successful example yet of a band blending both rock and jazz in a live format accessible to -- and loved by -- millions.
The band's now-legendary multi-hour forays into musical exploration via in-the-moment improvisation became a beacon for millions of Deadheads who traveled millions of miles to spend thousands of nights with the Grateful Dead, experiencing their one-of-a-kind sharing of energy between band and audience.
We believe it fitting to celebrate this truly unique American original in much the same way we celebrate some of this country's most beloved jazz artists, and to share the celebration with folks who appreciate the Grateful Dead's enduring musical legacy as much as they do those of the greatest musical artists New Orleans -- and the rest of the country -- has ever produced.
Happening at one of the most beautiful and intimate venues in New Orleans and featuring some of the most well-known names in the extended Grateful Dead family, AXIAL TILT will be an all-out party in honor of the music, life, harmony, and spirit of togetherness inspired and Furthured by America's own Grateful Dead.

A Note From Donna Jean Godchaux:
It is with a heavy heart that I must let all those attending this year's AXIAL TILT shows be informed that I am unable to come to the party this time. I have been experiencing issues with my throat and vocal chords that need some attention. A break from singing in the short term is in order to address the issues responsibly and insure that "my instrument" is not compromised longterm. I am delighted that Sunshine Becker (of Furthur) is able to step in, and who is more than qualified to fill the bill!
Please accept my sincere apologies. I look forward to celebrating the music we so love with you folks real soon, so "Keep on dancin' through the daylight, and greet the morning air with song" on my behalf!

* Given our shared fanbase, we want to mention that the 5/6 Voodoo Dead show at the Republic is a late-night show and actually starts after midnight (so technically on 5/7); music lovers can therefore catch most of both Voodoo Dead and AXIAL TILT beginning Saturday night if they wish.

NOTE: In true Grateful Dead spirit and given the intimate nature of the venue, we want to do all we can to insure that actual fans are in attendance, not scalper clients. Therefore, we have established a 4 ticket per purchaser per show limit (2 per purchaser for V.I.P. tickets), and decided to offer Will Call tickets only (so if you hear or see anyone trying to sell hard tickets, they're bogus -- please spread the word). Only the person actually purchasing the tickets will be able to pick them up at the venue (NO I.D. = NO ENTRY), and there will be *NO REFUNDS* (exchanges allowed at the door as long as the person picking up the tickets provides a photocopy of purchaser's driver's license, along with a note from the purchaser authorizing them to receive the tickets...so please plan accordingly, as there will be no exceptions).
