Drink so that others may eat!  Benefit fundraiser for The Food Line Project

The Food Line Project has been feeding Seattle's homeless on Sunday nights in Pioneer Square and now at Broadway and Denny on Capitol Hill for over 6 years, mostly paying for the food they serve out of their own pockets!

Help us raise some money to help these amazing people by joining us for food, booze, dancing, DJ sets by Modul8r, karaoke with DJ HorseHead, prize raffle, a photo booth and a video collage by first-time amateur filmmaker, Evan Hill.

The first 25 guests to purchase tickets to the event AND the first 25 donating guests through the door receive a free drink! Donations thankfully accepted in advance of the party through this site or at the door on the night of the event. If you cannot attend and would just like to help out, please do!  Of course, like The Food Line Project, we won't be turning anyone away because they cannot afford to donate. But if you can, please donate generously!


SUGGESTED DONATIONS:

  • $20  - condiments for two months

  • $30  - 3 gallons of chili

  • $40  - 40 pairs of clean socks

  • $50  - 250 turkey dogs

  • $70  - bagged lunches for 30 people

  • $100 - One Sunday night; hotdogs, chili, and bagged lunch for the entire Food Line

It is important for donors to know, The Food Line Project is NOT a registered 501c3. Donations are not tax deductible. So the donations you make are selfless, completely unsullied by the promise of any personal income-tax benefit!


RAFFLE PRIZES are growing but currently include...

  • 10 - tickets to have a dog with those you're helping on a Sunday of your choosing

  • 2 - $500.00 credit on real estate services for first-time home buyers. -Provided by Geoff Hill

  • 1 - Single-table professionally hosted poker (or blackjack) party from Team Casino ($250.00 value)


MORE ABOUT THE CAUSE:
If you've spent any time on Capitol Hill on a Sunday evening, you've probably seen The Food Line Project. Setting up orange cones, tables, steaming pots of hot dogs and chili, with a line of hungry folks often extending well down the block where Denny meets Broadway, they're hard to miss! But unless you were doing the feeding or being fed, you probably don't know much about them... Although Bill Pond is no longer leading the crew, his legacy lives on through the selfless and benevolent acts of volunteers including Beth Lambert, Michael Shannon,  Laura Delvillar, Michael Harris, Kevin Ramos, Mark Posteher, Eric Simone and Matthew and Jennifer Bodaly to name a few.  

For those who cannot afford to donate or who would like to take a more personal involvement in helping this cause, please get in touch with us at FoodLine@devdesk.net. We will connect you with one of the core volunteers of the Food Line Project for information on how you can lend a hand to those in need.

Briefly, they usually have 4 - 8 volunteers each week who meet at 5:30pm on Sunday evenings on Broadway near the Denny intersection.  They set up the table with burners, soup, dogs, buns, condiments, cups, spoons, and the other components of the "hot meal' portion.  Meanwhile others combine sandwiches, chips, cookies, fruit and water into recycled grocery bags and hand them out as sack lunches. They start serving at 6:00 sharp (or as soon as they're ready) and serve until the food is gone. Sadly, it's more common for them to run out of food than it is for them to run out of hungry mouths.

With your help we hope to raise enough money to keep them going for at least 6 months. If this event is a real success we might even raise enough money to fund the Project for a whole year! Then we'll have a great excuse to throw another party!

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS:
We're just a few people trying to help out with our time.

Geoff Hill wanted to do something special for his 35th birthday: give back. Geoff has volunteered for the Food Line Project, but hasn't been able to give as much of his time as he had hoped. When he discovered that Food Line Project volunteers pay for the food they serve with their own money, he decided that he could help in another way: help them raise the money they need to feed the homeless. If we meet our goals for the night, the organizers of the Food Line Project won't have to spend their own money on donated food for at least 6 months!  

Steve Woolsey, college buddy of the birthday boy and fellow entrepreneur was instrumental in finding and booking an awesome venue, building the website, Facebook event & ticket pages, and providing moral support.

Nick Sgambelluri, (also a longtime friend of the host) is a graphic designer and donated his time to the design work for the party. As a bona-fide gourmand, he was also given the responsibility of selecting catered food for the event.

Darlene Anderson is a professional party planner and friend of Steve and Geoff (how lucky for us!). She has acted as our consigliere, organizer of the raffle, and bringer of the photo booth!

Beth Lambert is our friend and liaison to the Food Line Project. Through her employment at Brown Paper Tickets she was also instrumental in helping up set up the tickets page for our event. Beth is also assisting us with fund-raising logistics on the evening of the event.

DJ Modul8r is a local DJ and member of such illustrious musical acts as Tulsi, The MC Type, and Team Awesome. Modul8r will be spinning short sets throughout the evening.

DJ Horsehead. No one knows who he is because his head is a horse's head. But he will be hosting short sets of karaoke throughout the evening.

Evan Hill, aka Baby Hira, is Geoff's brother. He is working on a short film, which he plans to debut at some point during Hot Dogs for the Homeless.
