IN LIVING COLOR
Cambria Center for the Arts is presenting "In Living Color" an original musical. Script by Randall Schwalbe incorporates many familiar songs of past years. October 26th through November 18, 2012, Friday and Saturday at 7:30PM and Sunday at 3:00PM. Tickets are $20.00; preview on October 26th $15.00; Gala on October 27th $25.00.
In Living Color is an original musical whose love story is set in the back drop of black and white television and color television. However, it is not about the technological growth of television itself, but offering yet another possible explanation of how television became what it is today. Remember, there are alternative explanations or rationales for many historial or scientific events. For example, unicorns do not exist today, because the two that were supposed to board the ark were out horsing around when the torrential rains started and the ship set sail. Smoking caused the demise of the dinosaurs. There really is a village at the North Pole. And dragons do exist, just as Herman Munster about Spot.
In a whimsical manner, this love story unfolds in the two worlds of television, color and black and whiteeach vying for audience share. By virtue of a bizarre circumstance, the two executive producers of each studio meet and, you guessed it, fall in love. However, this does not occur without unintended results. The crew of each studio is highly concerned that the "Yoko Ono" syndrome will take effect, causing the untimely demise of their cherished programming. Suddenly, questions abound: Will their love endure? Which style programming might ultimately perish? Can black and white and color television programming coexist indefinitely? How does blue figure in the final outcome?
Most importantly, those of you who grew up with televison of the '50's, '60s, and '70's will enjoy a nostalgic romp through television themes, excerpts, and yes, even commercials And for you who cannot remember that far back you will enjoy a closer look at what you can only find on YouTube or in expensive DVD collections.
