Girma Beyene is one of the most influential arrangers of Ethiopian music from the Golden Era of the 1960s and 70s when local musicians combined African rhythms with American R & B, soul, funk and big band jazz. Girma was a lyricist, a music writer, arranger, vocalist, an accomplished pianist and finally a bandleader. According to Ethiopiques' Series producer Francis Falceto, Girma left a greater mark on the "swinging Addis" scene as an arranger than his better known colleague Mulatu Astatke. Girma is also the composer of Muziqawi Silt, the most covered Ethiopian tune of all time. There has been a regain of interest for Girma Beyene in Europe and now in the US. He will be backed by the Feedel Band, a Washington DC-based band made up of former members of some Addis Ababa greatest bands, including the legendary Walias band and Aster Aweke.
