The Children's Law Center serves Forsyth and Guilford Counties as the voice of children who are caught up in their parents Chapter 50B civil domestic violence and Chapter 50 high conflict custody cases. Our staff and volunteer Guardians ad Litem (GALs) advocate for the best interest of each child in these complex matters, and provide the judges with unbiased information related to the child, and the childs family, that is not otherwise available in a courtroom setting.
Exposure to domestic violence during childhood correlates to problems throughout adulthood, including higher levels of depression, increased tolerance for violence in adult relationships, and poor conflict resolution skills.
Over 70% of children who witness violence in the home grow up to become adult victims of domestic violence or adult batterers, perpetuating the devastating cycle of violence. The Childrens Law Center of North Carolina is committed to breaking this cycle to enable children to grow up in safe environments and become emotionally healthy adults.
