PGTP Presents Sister Act the Musical
Sister Act the musical is based on the 1992 movie about a washed-up lounge singer: Deloris Van Cartier! She, played by Whoopi Goldberg, must hide in a convent after witnessing her boyfriend, Vince (a mobster) commit murder. Each passing day in the convent teaches her (renamed Sister Mary Clarence) the value of sisterhood while she empowers the nuns to raise their voices. It is a PG-13 musical comedy due to its humor and use of realistic-looking prop guns.
Back by popular demand, the trio is at it again: Pleasant Grove Theatre Production, Katherine Albiani Middle School Drama, and Soul Purpose. None of this would be possible without the visionary Kevin Little who serves as our director and vocal coach. Alongside Kevin is the immensely talented Gabriel Sandoval to provide one-on-one acting tips to the actors. To dazzle the crowd with sparkling costumes, Michelle Campbell and Sandy Beretta team up yet again! We are incredibly grateful for Cat Davis and several Soul Purpose members for working tirelessly on the choreography. Rejeania Browns 6th period Drama Production class provided the technical components of the production.
In our production, senior Samaria Sylvester stars as Deloris Van Cartier opposite senior Marco Tabayoyon who makes his theatrical debut as Curtis. In addition, Elly nominated actors: senior Maria Beretta plays Mother Superior and junior Jacob Padua embodies Sweaty Eddy. We could not have done this production justice without singing and dancing nuns! Senior Vivan Gallegos concludes her last musical with PGTP as Sister Mary Patrick; junior Nora Williams is aged to play Sister Mary Lazarus; freshman Bryor Lewis returns to the stage as Sister Mary Roberts. Of course, what is a musical without dazzling dance numbers?! You will witness choreography from talented SP members such as senior Brea Do and senior Elijah Casterence. In fact, some of the SP members were cast as actors! Look out for the always hilarious senior Kyle Saephan as he plays Monsignor OHara. Also, senior Thea Dela Cruz flawlessly plays Tina and sophomore Natalie Lam debuts as she plays the goofy T.J. There are over 50 actors, dancers, and crew members participating! Don't miss out!
