Each Other: Public Rehearsal, Tia Kramer & Tamin Totzke
Tia Kramer & Tamin Totzke create performances that physicalize the reciprocal relationship between body and environment. Through a series of open rehearsals titled, Each Other, they will examine the body as a record of lived experience and a vehicle for deep empathy.
ABOUT TIA KRAMER www.tiakramer.com
Tia Kramer is an interdisciplinary artist, designer and director strongly influenced by pedestrian interactions with the spaces we inhabit. Kramer studied performance and fiber and material studies at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2005) and Macalester College (1999). She has directed site specific performances at Henry Art Gallery, Georgetown Steam Plant, Bellevue Arts Museum, Fort Lawton in Seattles Discovery Park, Smoke Farm in Arlington, WA and in downtown Chicago. Her sculptural objects have been exhibited at galleries and museums nationally and internationally. Through collaboration, film and object making she aims to create experiences infused with the unexpectedness necessary to expose overlooked inter-relationships that shift our perception of everyday life.
ABOUT TAMIN TOTZKE www.tamintotzke.com
Tamin Totzke is a Seattle-based dance artist: choreographer, improviser and dance educator, with a MFA from the University of Illinois. Her fascination with the body has inspired my studies in somatic therapies, mindfulness practices, bodywork and massage therapy. As a dance educator, she co-teaches Advanced Modern Laboratory and Technique at Velocity Dance Center with Alia Swersky and teaches Contact Improvisation at Om Culture Studio.
ABOUT WE ARE A CROWD OF OTHERS www.crowdofothers.com
Artists Gail Grinnell, Sam Wildman, and Eric John Olson are using their residency at MadArt Studio to weave together an expansive, textile-based installation with a series of public programs which investigate the language and resonance of ordinary acts. This exhibit melds the ethereal fabric artwork Gail and Sam are recognized for with some broader programming and interactive public events that stem from Eric and Sams past social practice collaborations. Through these different approaches, the artists create a broad forum for discussing the sources of our day-to-day rituals and the ways performance percolates into our homes and workplaces.
ABOUT MAD ART www.madartseattle.com
MadArt Studio is an expansive workspace which provides selected artists with a unique opportunity to create large-scale artwork, while providing the public with a chance to witness the artistic process. Since 2009, MadArt has served as a catalyst for new and unexpected artworks in Seattle, with projects such as Mad Homes, Mad Campus, and Middle Fork. Through these exhibits, MadArt fosters a dialogue between artists and the public. MadArts mission is to support emerging artists in our community, to bring art into our lives in unexpected ways, and to create community involvement in the arts.
