 THE VENERABLE SHOWER OF BEAUTY (VSB) Gamelan (known as Kyai Guntur Sari in Javanese) has been performing in the Northwest for 36 years. One of Lewis & Clark College's hidden treasures, the ensemble plays both traditional and contemporary works for gamelan. The group, directed by Mindy Johnston, is made up of community members, students and alumni.

The Venerable Showers of Beauty Gamelan originated in a village near Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia in approximately 1880.  It was made for and used by a wealthy Chinese Indonesian family. Lewis and Clark College is particularly fortunate to have a gamelan of this quality and the community group is extremely proud to be able to learn and perform on these instruments.

Join us for an intimate evening of traditional Javanese gamelan music at Hipbone Studio with guest artists Midiyanto and his wife, Heni Savitri. We will also be joined by gamelan friends from Seattle and Ireland! There is limited seating, so advanced ticket purchase is highly recommended. Tickets can be purchased on BPT until Friday, November 18th. Tickets will be available at the door the day of the show, November 19th.
