Vitality Exhale Dance Co & Apparel invites the community to a night of aesthetic beauty being presented at the Santa Cruz Center for Culture, 1805 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78702. Vitality Exhale is very excited and privileged to be dancing at this wonderful venue that is in the heart of the East side.

Director Atticus Rodriguez says that he tries to portray a strong relationship with the street art culture that is a part of our everyday pedestrian life. The visual art, the different architectural structures and human moving pedestrian aesthetic is abruptly there in negative and positive ways. Atticus likes to sample this in his movements and uses street historical turntablism as accompanist for the dance. Vitality Exhale is a dance apparel company that sponsors dancers through free class and performance opportunities with a strong foundation on choreography.

The show is called Black Book as a metaphor for the graffiti derived term as the artists from the surrounding neighborhood would pass around a black book that had a collection of their art work that they were going to be put up on the medium we know as walls. This is a collection of modern contemporary dances from artists of movement known as choreographers. It will be featured Aug 26-27.

This curious night of dance will include: live DJ sessions and sounds by Déjàvu, dance pieces by local choreographers Meghan Bowman and Atticus Rodriguez, and a special dance for film by videographer Sarah Wingfield. Vitality Exhale sponsored dancers include Makeda Easter and Rachel Saathoff.

Ive been surrounded by DJs for years. Its only natural that I incorporate record players and dance music as the sound medium for this piece, Atticus says while house music playing in the background.

Rodriguezs premier piece, entitled Time Stands Still, explores the relationship between the mental psyche and physical realm as performers get lost in a time vortex. This experience affects their inhibitions and emotions in both negative and positive ways. The choreography is beautifully complex and maintains a strong narrative influenced by the street pedestrian aesthetic that synchronizes very well with the live drum n bass records spinning.

Dance style influences and genres include: Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, Break Dance, Mime, Salsa, Contact Improve, Pop n Lock, Butoh, Hard Step, Tai Chi, and Site Specific.

We proudly invite Austin to a night of contemporary dance and sound; presented at the Santa Cruz Center for Culture.
