Common Application workshop with EduCoates (Rachel Coates)
Rising seniors applying to college fall 2016 work on their applications in a friendly workshop setting, with guidance from Rachel Coates, Independent Educational Consultant of EduCoates College Services, www.educoates.com
Students can attend just one, two or all of the 3 workshops.
When: Sundays 7/17, 8/7, 8/14. 2:15 - 4 pm Where: Founders Workspace, 553 Prospect Ave, Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn. Between 10th and 11th Ave. F train, 15th St/Prospect Park stop. Cost: $40 per session. Limited to 10 students per date. Included: Snacks and camaraderie.
Each student must bring their own laptop with WiFi capability. There's free WiFi access at the workshop location, which is new, air-conditioned and pleasant.
I'll explain one area of the application for the first half hour. The rest of the time students will work independently on any part of the Common App, asking questions when they get stuck or want advice.
Here's how I'm breaking it down:
7/17 - Navigating the main parts of the Common Application. Common App "rollover" tips. Tips for describing extra-curricular activities. 8/7 - Exploring/adding colleges to your Common App list. How to locate the extra essays and other college-specific questions. Tips for writing "Why college X?" essays. 8/14 - The FERPA confidentiality release. Tips for getting recommendations. General advice for writing the personal statement. Brainstorming essay topics.
Note: this is a general workshop for the Common Application not a college essay bootcamp.
Please email me at rachel@educoates.com if you have questions.
