Yearn and Return
"Tshuvah begins with a turn, a tun away from the external world and toward the inner realm of the heart. We effect this turn in many ways. If we are not used to solitude or contemplation, if we are normally consumed by a frantic round of activity, if we live our lives at a rapid pace, then simply stopping - setting aside a small period of time each day for contemplation, meditation or prayer, observing the Sabbath or some other conscious retreat from the world of activity and stress - can suddenly leave us in confrontation with the contents of our hearts. These contents are an open secret. We already know this secret. Often all that's required of us is to be still for a moment, and the heart begins to disclose itself to us of its own accord" Rabbi Alan Lew, This is Real and You are Completely Unprepared, 2003
Elul is a time for introspection. It is in Elul where we begin the work of unravelling. Our tradition allots this time of year specifically for spiritual accounting - awakening more clearly to our deepest yearnings, so that we may come back to wholeness once again. Join us for a Shabbaton filled with joyful singing, contemplative prayer, and meditation as we prepare for another year of the soul's journey home.
No experience with meditation or Jewish practice necessary.
This retreat will aim to create and inclusive, open and pluralistic space for people of all kinds of Jewish backgrounds, identities, and spiritual practices.
