Great Basin, Night Sky
Where: Great Basin National Park When: Saturday, August 13, 20168:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost: $60.00 Explore the connections between art and science through observation and interpretation. Fiber Artist Arline Martens will lead participants through this day-long workshop to create a Great Basin nightscape in cotton and silk using dyeing, painting, cutting, and stitching techniques. Level: Advanced Beginner and up.
Personal Statement: Observation! That's what I am attracted to and amazed by, especially the observation connection between art and science. Through observation and then interpretation, I create fiber art, with the night sky being a favorite subject. Dyeing, painting, cutting, and the manipulation of cottons and silks which are then machine stitched; where the thread is employed as a drawn line, as well as for the construction of each design. I have been creating and sewing for over 50 years, BS in Art Education, 10 years as board member for an annual juried fine craft exhibit, juried local art exhibits, currently am a participating member artist in Flagstaff's Artist's Gallery, a cooperative gallery.
