Home Improvement Workshop

These workshops are for long-time homeowners who may need repairs or want to renovate and for recent buyers, who may want to make improvements.

UAC- The Urban Affairs Coalition Representative usually talks about low-cost home improvement loans and how to avoid predatory lending. UAC is the organization, with whom the MAUSA Housing Counselors funnel home improvement loan requests. These loans are known as Phil loans of $10,000.00 and Phil-Plus Loans of $25,000.00, offered by specific local banks. This is the most important part of the workshop, as it helps MAUSA.

PGW- The Philadelphia Gas Works Representative discusses energy saving tips, LIHEAP ( low income help with energy bills) and the gas company's parts and labor program, etc.

Right at home is a local (Mt. Airy) organization which provides help for people who are aging in place and need services temporarily or permanently in order to continue to stay in their own home. These services include simple home renovations, meal preparations, companionship, other services, and resource info.

Natural Pest Control is a pest control company. Mr. Sands, the speaker, does the extermination at MAUSA. He discusses ways to combat and rid one's home of pests, especially bedbugs.
