Robert Smythe: Ham and Wry
Tickets are are available at the door for $12 L'Etage, 6th and Bainbridge
He's at it again.
After his highly successful cabaret debut in August, Robert Smythe returns to LEtage with his newest collection of songs celebrating vaudeville, Broadway and life. Unlike last time, and due to demand from no one in particular, Robert Smythe: Ham and Wry features no tap dancing; however, one of the only puppets left after the closing of Mum Puppettheatre may make an appearance. The show includes songs by Michael Ogborn, Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman, and a special nod to Spike Jones.
Robert Smythe has long been known as one of Philadelphia's most creative theater creators and performers. While many people know him as the award-winning founder and artistic director of Mum Puppettheatre, few are aware that he started off in musical theater before fulfilling a dream of creating an internationally known puppet theater.
This intimate and ridiculous show features a special appearance by Slim Bob Slim, the ukulele-playing vaudevillian alter ego of Philadelphia actor/director/writer Seth Reichgott, with jazz pianist Geoffrey Longley, fresh from his European tour with Renaissance, on the keyboard.
