The School for Scandal, by Richard B. Sheridan (staged reading)
A staged reading of the classic Georgian farce by Richard Brinsley Sheridan. It tells the story of Sir Oliver Surface, lately returned to London from India, who is trying to decide which of his nephews to leave his fortune to. Should he leave his money to Joseph, who appears more moral on the outside, and always says the right thing, but unknown to Sir Oliver, is actually a gossip and character assassin only interested in money? Or his brother Charles; a dissolute rake who drinks and gambles, and is in substantial debt, but who is kind and loyal to his friends? Oliver knows that neither brother has seen him in a long time, and decides to test their true characters by appearing to Charles as a money lender; and to Joseph as an old family friend in need of money. If that isn't enough, the former guardian of the Surface brothers, Sir Peter Teazle, has married a much younger wife who is spending his money at a fantastic rate, and he is constantly quarreling with her. Hilarity and Hi-jinks ensue.
