Event Date: July 13th 7:30pm to 9:30pm

Mingyur RinpocheThe practice of meditation puts us in touch with a source of inner peace and well-being that we can experience at any time, even when we find ourselves in chaotic or challenging circumstances. In Tibetan Buddhism, the challenges of life are used as opportunities to nurture awareness, compassion, and wisdom. The process of dying is said to present a unique and potent opportunity to awaken. The key to taking advantage of this opportunity lies in two of the most common experiences in our lives: the states of deep sleep and dreaming. For more than a thousand years, meditation practices that enable us to explore these states of consciousness have been valued as profound methods for transforming the mind and preparing for the moment of death.

In this evening talk, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche will offer teachings on sleeping, dreaming, and ways to approach death with dignity, awareness, and care. His talk will draw on classical teachings from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and his own experience while on retreat. Neuroscientist Dr. Richard Davidson will offer a scientific perspective based on his research on the neural bases of emotion and methods to promote human flourishing, including meditation. The talk will include a question and answer session and is suitable for anyone with an interest in meditation and Tibetan Buddhism.
