Searching for God: A Quest for New Meaning in the Modern World
At the turn of the 20th century the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche declared "Gott ist tot": "God is dead". This radical statement, born from witnessing the onset of the industrial revolution, resonated through the intellectual and artistic communities of the time. It began the movement that is known today as 'Modern Art'. On this Art Shot we shall discuss how artists in the 20th century tried to re-find 'God' in a world increasingly dominated by science and the machine.
