Program D: Big Range Austin Dance Festival 2012
Program D is a mixed showcase of new contemporary dance, multi-media and movement based-performance art from established and emerging choreographers from Austin and across the country. Dances include live music, elaborate costuming, collaborative choreography and timely subject matter.
Choreographers: David Justin, Shohei Iwahama, Mari Akita, Nicole Roerick (Wisconsin), Olivia Chacon, David Chao, Dawn Davis Loring
Big Range Austin is a only annually curated contemporary dance festival in Austin that strives to present quality contemporary dance exploring diverse concepts within the movement arts. We encourage experimentation from choreographers to stretch their own ideas of dance, collaboration, and performance excellence. We seek to engage the audience through fresh new ideas that are challenging and fun, with a strong emphasis on community building through each individual voice. Big Range Austin is facilitated through Spank Dance and is a sister festival to Big Range Houston, founded in 2003 in part by Suchu Dance Company. Spank Dance encourages the growth and collaboration of the contemporary dance communities in Central Texas by bridging ideas, people, and diverse artistic expression.
--This project is funded and supported in part by a grant from The Texas Commission On The Arts and The City of Austin through the cultural arts division believing an investment in the arts is an investment in Austin's future. This and all project are also funded from private donations.
