Ride to Wales: Stop Coal
Turning the Tide on Coal
This April we will ride to the Ffos-y-Fran coal mine
near Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, the largest
opencast coal mine in the country. Coal is the
dirtiest of fossil fuels, and endangers our health and
our hopes for a liveable planet. Its time to invest in
the renewable energy projects and green jobs which
can sustain communities and our planet - its time to
break free from fossil fuels.
Whether you are an experienced cyclist or a novice,
on an electric bike or a tandem, young or old, there
is a place for everyone as we ride to communicate the urgency of the need to transition into renewables. Our journey together will start in London on 25 April and we'll ride through
Reading, Devizes, Bristol, and Cardiff, connecting
with local communities and with other cyclists at
each step of the ride. As a big team we will eat
together, share planning and organising sessions,
and skill-share. In Wales well be supporting the
local community in Merthyr Tydfil who have fought
for years to resist the corporate owners of the mine,
Miller Argent, who pollute the area and whose coal
fuels the dirty Aberthaw power station. Please see the www.timetocycle.org website for more detailed information and to read the Terms & Conditions for this ride.
When we get to the mine well join the Reclaim the
Power mass action camp: End Coal Now. See their
website at www.reclaimthepower.org.uk. Its time to
switch away from the fossil fuels which damage our
health, pollute the air, and endanger our future. Join
us in being part of the solution.
Ride with us for climate justice and a liveable planet!
