Double Happiness
Former Chicago Tribune and Ithaca Journal journalist Kelly Haramis juggles infertility, adoption and loss in this one-woman show directed by David Knoell. Haramis takes audience members on her quest to have a baby and introduces them to the world's most fertile man. And Penn State parties. And takes them on her journey to China to adopt her daughter. Find out how her hands went from holding a dream to holding two miracles. New City writes "Double Happiness is just the right blend of pathos and self-deprecation; Haramis' tale of her long gestating plans for parenthood was thoughtfully crafted and performed with seemingly boundless energy." The Montreal Gazette says of Haramis: "She's an enthusiastic, articulate performer and her tale, with its double-happy ending, is inspiring."
Kelly Haramis rediscovered her love of improv and theatre after a decade as a journalist (including the Chicago Tribune and the Ithaca Journal). In addition to a BA in Journalism and minors in Theatre Arts and Women's Studies from Penn State, Kelly is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory. She debuted her one-woman show Double Happiness: A Tale of Love, Loss, and One Forever Family in May 2012 at Studio Be in Chicago. Since then, she has performed it at the Chicago Fringe Festival in 2015; St-Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival in 2014; FRIGID New York in New York, NY in 2014; at the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival in 2013; and in Highland Park, IL. Kelly debuted part of her show Hard-Core CORN at 2014 Chicago Women's Funny Festival. Kelly is currently writing a one-woman show about her Puerto Rican, German and Greek ancestors.
