SANKOFA BOOK FAIR at NBEA 53RD ANNUAL CONVENTION-CHICAGO
KUUMBA IMPRESARIO, the Book Vendors outreach arm of the National Black Evangelical Association (NBEA), presents SANKOFA BOOK FAIR (SBF). SBF is the Africana Studies and Black Theology books dimension of NBEA'S 53rd ANNUAL CONVENTION, April 20-23, 2016, at Chicago's Marriott Midway Hotel, 6520 S. Cicero Avenue.
Put another way, SANKOFA BOOK FAIR serves as the Black Books component of NBEA's upcoming Spring convention. More, the NBEA BOOKFAIR is a gathering of national, local, and small press book sellers and publishers catering to the national Black Books market-especially its Africana studies, Black Theology, and faith-based readership.
Additionally, SANKOFA BOOK FAIR is an activity of SANKOFA FORUM (SF). SF is the concerned seniors affinity group coalition of both NBEA & ADLA-Chicago activists. A driving force within SBF, SF is dedicated to advancing Africana Studies Education, via books especially, inside and outside both the NBEA and ADLA. More, ADLA is an abbreviation for the African Descent Lutheran Association. It serves as an autonomous, ethnic specific, association of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
The signature organizing slogan of the engaged SF elders coalition, consisting of both NBEA and ADLA-Chicago members especially but not exclusively, is "Act III for concerned, culturally grounded, elder lions -simba wasais."
Note: Founded in 1963 by concerned African American evangelists meeting in Los Angeles, at the height of the National Black Freedom Movement (with its twin thrusts of Civil Rights and Black Power), NBEA is the oldest and largest culturally grounded national association of African Descent evangelicals in America. Its motto is "Unity in diversity without enforced conformity."
Net proceeds from SANKOFA BOOK FAIR will go to defraying the costs of this year's Chicago NBEA Convention which is free and open to the public. The 2016 NBEA convention theme is "Cush Cries Out! Christ Answers! Part II."
