Barry Johnson - Visual Artist
Barry is a Washington based visual artist and filmmaker from Kansas that's had a range of works in visual art and film shown across the U.S. and world. He was part of Forward Flux's inaugural cycle of collaborate:create in Seattle held last year at Fremont Abbey. Waking up to paint in his studio at two every morning, Barry works tirelessly to create pieces that challenge views on gender, race, sex, and sound. His work is a result of events taking place around the world and in everyday life. To force growth in his skills, he prefers to work on different collections of pieces simultaneously and often abandons a style once he feels he has a strong grasp on it.

Bryon Au Yong - Composer
Byron Au Yong composes songs of dislocation prompted by a broken lineage. Born to Chinese immigrants in Pittsburgh and raised in the Pacific Northwest, his upbringing informs a dedication to creating events where the American Dream and sustainability play vital roles. Au Yong creates with an attention to intercultural collaboration and the ways people connect with the places they call home.
Examples include Kidnapping Water: Bottled Operas (4Culture Site-Specific Arts), Piano ConcertoHouston (Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts), Stuck Elevator (American Conservatory Theatre/International Festival of Arts & Ideas), Surrender: A T'ai Qi Cantata (The Esoterics), and TURBINE (Leah Stein Dance Company/Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia).
Au Yong holds degrees from NYU, UCLA and the University of Washington. He has been artist-in-residence with the Sundance Institute Theatre Lab, Virginia Tech Center for the Arts, Weston Playhouse, and Yale Institute for Music Theatre. Honors include a Creative Capital Award and Time Warner Foundation Fellowship. He lives in Seattle.

The Flux Salon is an arts gathering that features readings of new plays and other performances in intimate spaces. You never know where the next Salon will take place - in the past they have been held in basements, living rooms, houseboats, wine shops, and restaurants around the city. The plays that premiere at the Salon have never or rarely been seen, and are written by emerging playwrights from around the country with an emphasis on under-represented voices. This is a chance to see the hits of tomorrow performed by some of the most exciting acting talent in Seattle up close and personal - previous performers include John Patrick Lowrie, Brandon J Simmons, Tanesha Ross and more. Dance, music, performance or visual art, and appearances by the playwright may also be in store. Salon members are a diverse mix of artists, taste-makers, coders, readers, dreamers, thinkers, and you. The Salon is a project of Forward Flux Productions.
