Thought Caligula was crazy? Thought Nero was nuts? They pale in comparison to ELAGABALUS, EMPEROR OF ROME. This (mostly) true story of the youth that became a Roman Emperor is told with a mix of Grand-Guignol horror and outrageous comedy. Audiences can expect a bloody evening of deceit, vengeance, fetishism, cross-dressing, and much more. Assassinated at the age of eighteen by his own soldiers at the request of his own family, Elagabalus (sometimes called Heliogabalus) went down in history as one of the most reviled and bizarre characters in Roman history. El Gato proudly brings his macabre story to the stage.

Founded in 2005 by Shawn Ferreyra and Amy Louise Cole, El Gato Del Diablo Theatre Company is a San Francisco-based theatre company offering topical, relevant and affordable productions to adults and young audiences that honor the craft of theatre in its most authentic form. The productions are geared to a diverse audience and present multicultural and globalized viewpoints. Towards these ends, production values rely more on imagination than on spectacle.
