FREE BIG GROUP MEDITATION + DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TM AND MINDFULNESS with Dr Gemma Beckley
It's time for another Big Group Meditation right in the heart of Central London!
These events are now very popular. By meditating with hundreds of people we not only experience huge personal benefits in our practice but we help our society by creating brainwave coherence in the environment and reducing crime and hatred as indicated by a huge body of scientific research. That's right! By meditating together we contribute massively to creating world peace!
Every meditation practice is welcome and if you don't have one you'll be instructed in a simple mindfulness technique to join in the big group meditation. This is a great way to introduce your friends and family to meditation.
Following the meditation Dr Gemma Beckley will be talking about the differences between TM and other practices, with a paricular focus on mindfulness.
Mindfulness has gained enormous popularity in the last 10 years, making the practice of meditation in general more mainstream than ever before. This has raised many questions posed to teachers at the Meditation Trust - from non meditators: "aren't all techniques the same? which should I choose?", from those already practicing mindfulness: "I want to deepen my practice - should I move on to Transcendental Meditation (TM)? If so, can I/ should I still continue to practice mindfulness? How do the techniques compare?" and to those already practicing TM: "I've heard so much about mindfulness - should I learn that too? My friend practices mindfulness, how do I explain to them the differences/relationship?"
In this talk, Dr Gemma Beckley will draw on her experience of teaching mindfulness as a Clinical Psychologist in the NHS for over 10 years to clients with a variety of mental health diagnoses, as well as her experience of teaching several thousand people Transcendental Meditation for the Meditation Trust. Her doctoral level research, which explored the relationship between these techniques and their effect on mental health and well being, will, in combination with this experience, be the background from which she attempts to address these questions and provide the audience with a greater understanding of both techniques and their relationship.
