The Importance Of Being Earnest
Anderlin Arts kicks off their 2016 season with the classic hilarious hit The Importance Of Being Earnest
"A trivial comedy for serious people"
This delightful romp of mistaken identities, witty banter, and larger-than-life characters is arguably one of the greatest comedies ever written. It is Oscar Wilde's most famous and most successful play and is a guaranteed charmer with its fast-paced sharp wit.
Set in Victorian England in the 1890s, two clever young bachelors, the dependable John Worthing and suave and elegant playboy Algernon Moncrieff, feel compelled to create different identities in order to pursue two eligible ladies Cecily Cardew and Gwendolen Fairfax. The courting process ensues; but not without complications as the suitors try to keep ahead of their own deception. The hilarious misadventures which result from their subterfuge end in hyjinx and plot twists that will surely delight. With some of the finest dialogue to be found in theatre, The Importance of Being Earnest is a hilarious story of romance, secret identities and cucumber sandwiches.
