The Digital Wave: CAD/CAM Machines and Materials
The Digital Wave: CAD/CAM Machines and Materials, presented by Dr. Russell Giordano - CEUs 1.5 credits
Digital dentistry continues to advance with intra-oral scanners and applications from orthodontics to dentures. Material selection and machine accuracy are critical to success. This session involves a review and discussion of digital impression systems and block materials. Block materials are being touted as the solution to problems with layered porcelains. Vitablocs, e.max, composite resin blocks, zirconia, and Vitas new interpenetrating ceramic will be discussed with respect to properties and handling. Full contour zirconia remains the fastest growing segment of the market. All zirconias are not the same and finishing of the material can affect strength, wear, and long term survivability.
Learning Objectives: 1: Understanding the digital workflow and approaches to fabrication of devices with digital files. 2: Clinical selection of materials with respect to esthetic and preparation requirements. 3: Finishing and cementing procedures for various types of all- ceramic materials.
