Rosa Guadalupe, Noche Del Amor
On Valentines Day, Mexico celebrates The Day of Love and Friendship, in Spanish: El Dia del Amor y la Amistad. Those of us who have had the opportunity to live here in San Miguel know that the Mexican people are warm, festive and generous; they are very willing to show their love and affection, but they also need to feel pampered by those they love. Valentines Day in Mexico is not just a celebration among couples, it is a celebration of ones relationship with important people in their lives. Even though the holiday was imported from Europe, it is a holiday that Mexico has embraced with enthusiasm!
One Valentine tradition that still exists in Mexico is the meeting of young people in a park. With the girls and boys separated, they both then walk around the jardÃn in opposite directions. When they come across each other, a boy may give a particular girl a flower. When the girl comes back holding the flower, this is an indication that she is also interested in going out with the boy who gave it.
