Telling: Stanford

Telling: Stanford reveals the stories of military veterans and family members from Stanford and the surrounding community as performed by the veterans themselves.
The project is created by The Telling Project and is co-sponsored by the Office for Military-Affiliated Communities (OMAC), the Medicine & The Muse Program in Medical Humanities at the Center for Biomedical Ethics, Stanford Continuing Studies and the Bob Woodruff Foundation.

The Telling Project works with communities and organizations to produce "Telling," an innovative performance in which military veterans and their family members, after interviews and subsequent training and rehearsal, stage the 'telling' of their stories for their communities. The Telling Project creates opportunities for veterans to speak and their communities to listen. Since 2008, The Telling Project has produced 27 original performances, put over 150 veterans and family members on stage and performed in 16 states across the nation. http://thetellingproject.org/
BIOS:
Bobby McLean was born and raised in Los Altos, CA, where he graduated from Los Altos High School on June 10, 2008. Nine days later on June 19, he left for Ft. Benning, GA where we would eventually become a Special Operations Airborne Ranger, completing three combat tours, one in Iraq and two in Afghanistan while serving in the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. Currently, Bobby is in pursuit of a degree in Communications & Public Policy from Santa Clara University, where he also serves as Team Manager for the Santa Clara University Men's Rugby team. Outside of school, he spends time working with fellow veterans at the Palo Alto VA hospital, as well as in the community with those who struggle with PTSD and substance abuse. Bobby believes his service to our country is only the beginning.
Leslie Bridges is a junior at Stanford University majoring in Political Science. When she isn't reading, she is often training as a Marine Officer Candidate and plans on actively serving in the military post-graduation. She spent this summer at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia at Officer Candidate's School. Leslie also volunteers at the VA in Menlo Park, works as an Oral Communications Tutor at the Hume Center and with the Stanford d.school as a Peer Facilitator. If you catch her on a good day, she's probably rock climbing or teaching yoga. Her current passion is leading the Alternative Spring Break course and trip, Bridging the Civil-Military Divide: Military Service as Public Service in the 21st Century. She would like to thank Dustin and the Office for Military-Affiliated Communities at Stanford for their generous guidance and support.
Randall Holmes started his military career while at community college through the Army's College First program and served in the Army as a Human Intelligence Collector from 2005-2011. His service included one 15 month deployment to al-Anbar Province, Iraq, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Randall studied Arabic at the Defense Language Institute and finished his enlistment as a staff sergeant instructing at the Human Intelligence Joint Center of Excellence, Ft Huachuca, AZ. In 2011, Randall transferred into Stanford where he completed a BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Randall continued at Stanford pursuing a master's degree in the School of Earth, Energy, and Environmental Sciences. Randall hopes to complete a PhD with Prof Scott Fendorf researching the role of hexavalent chromium and trace metal cycling in an all wind, water, and solar energy economy as proposed by Stanford's Prof Mark Jacobson and The Solutions Project (See: thesolutionsproject.org).
Leana Litchfield was a Navy spouse for 20 years. She was born in Annandale, New Jersey and moved to Brooksville, Florida after her junior year of high school. She graduated from University of South Florida and taught elementary school for ten years. She met her naval aviator husband in Jacksonville, Florida. She loves garage and estate sales making treasures from others cast-offs. She has no theater background, but enjoyed singing in various choruses throughout her life. Her two middle school children are the light of her life. Shes waved good-bye to her husband more times than they have celebrated anniversaries.
Victoria Sanders is a U.S. Veteran, mother of two and a grandmother of one. She served in the U.S. Army from 1975 to 1976. Victoria graduated from Central Texas College in 1983 with a degree in Registered Nursing. She has worked professionally as a nurse in Temple, TX, Monterey, CA and Greenbrae, CA. As a community activist, Victoria served at the Army Community Services Division in Darmstadt Germany, and volunteered for the CA Veteran Affairs' Women Veterans Advocacy Committee in Palo Alto, CA. In July of 2013, Victoria testified before a Subcommittee on Health of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee to examine the care and treatment of survivors of military sexual trauma. In October she spoke with a panel at the joint meeting of California State Assembly Veteran Affairs Committee, and Women's Caucus about the care of sexual assault victims in the National Guard and Reserves.
