Old Lady Talking the Blues: Isla Dewar in conversation with Catherine Simpson
Join Isla as she talks the blues. Listen to her on how life, loneliness, grief, sorrow and sudden splashes of happiness (and her pet dogs!) have influenced her writing. Catherine and Isla exchange their thoughts about their favourite books, things they like to put in books and books they would like to write, about their heroines both living and on the page and about the characters they admire, fear, love and hate.
Don't miss out on this conversation, which promises to be an exciting and illuminating exchange between debut novelist Catherine Simpson and the wonderful Isla Dewar, author of fifteen novels, including Giving Up the Ordinary, Women Talking Dirty and Secrets of a Family Album. Prior to writing and publishing her novels, Isla Dewar wrote articles for newspapers and magazines. After finally plucking up the courage to send her first novel to an agent, she was signed up within a week and offered a two-book deal! Dewar found success with her second novel, Women Talking Dirty, which was turned into a film starring Helena Bonham Carter. Her most recent novel, A Winter Bride, is set in 1950s Edinburgh.
Catherine Simpson is a novelist and short story writer based near Edinburgh. Her debut novel Truestory was published by Sandstone Press in September 2015. In 2013 she received a Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award. Her work has been published in various anthologies and magazines, published online and broadcast on BBC Radio.
