JCC East Bay Parent Seminar "Letting Go, Holding On" with Janet Harris, MA
We need to learn when to extend the string and when to pull it back. Parents are letting go from the moment their child is born. We will explore the nuances of letting our children develop their own identities, from free range parenting to attachment parenting. Does Jewish tradition have anything to say about Letting Go? We'll find out!
Janet Harris is currently the Director of the Early Childhood Education Initiative of the Jewish Community Federation. She has worked in the field of Early Childhood Jewish Education for over 30 years. During that time, Janet has worked for a central agency of Jewish Education in the East Bay, has founded both an Orthodox and Conservative Jewish preschool, and has been a Jewish community preschool Director for many years. Janet is a graduate of the Melton Program for Jewish Education in the Diaspora, a year-long fellowship program based at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She has also been a Wexner Heritage Fellow, completed the Mandel Teacher Education Initiative, and has been a Richard Dinner Fellow at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. Ms. Harris holds California Teaching Credentials in Early Childhood Education and Parent Education. Janet studied at Pacific Oaks College for her bachelor's degree in Human Development, holds her master's degree in Educational Leadership. Ms. Harris is an ardent supporter of a democratic and pluralistic Israel, and has been a member of the ECHAD professional committee, a JCF committee that serves Early Childhood Education projects in the Israeli Arab communities of Israel. Janet works as a parent coach, and is the proud grandparent of Ezra. She is a member of Congregation Netivot Shalom in Berkeley, CA.
This program is generously sponsored by the Jewish Federation of the East Bay's Sprout Initiative: Helping Jewish Families Grow Together.
