Trumpets & Angels: A Baroque Christmas Story
The Lakeville CT-based, national award-winning music organization Crescendo presents Heinrich Schütz'"Historia der Geburt Jesu Christi," SWV 435, one of the most important German oratorios of the 17th century, without which Johann Sebastian Bach could not have written his own masterpiece "Christmas Oratorio BWV 248.
The 40-minute piece will be complemented with motets by two contemporaries of Schütz, Michael Praetorius and Giovanni Gabrieli.
The performers are John Cox, Evangelist, Jennifer Tyo, Angel and David Tinervia, King Herod, with Crescendo's Vocal Ensemble and Period Instrument Orchestra. Crescendo's founder and artistic director Christine Gevert will conduct.
Crescendo's performances are Take Part Culture Card events of the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council.
