Ancora Presents: Voices in the Snow
with special guests
Illumni Men's Chorale
Under the direction of Aimee Mell, Seattle women's choir Ancora presents its 12th annual holiday concert! Drink in wintry choral gems by Elgar, Wessman, Whitacre, and others, including the U.S. premiere performance of "Voices in the Snow," a collection of choral vignettes by Flemish composer Rudi Tas.
ANCORA
Established in 2004, Seattle-based women's choir Ancora performs music both adventurous and traditional, highlighting the beauty and mystique of the female voice. With two recordings available, Ancora has an active concert season, performing throughout the Seattle region with a minimum of two full concerts per year. Other performances have included Northwest Folklife, the Leavenworth tree lighting, and the popular Figgy Pudding caroling competition, which the choir has won twice. Auditions are held twice a year.
AIMEE MELL, Artistic Director
Aimee Mell brings a deep and varied background to her position as Artistic Director of Ancora. In addition to diverse musical interests ranging from world music traditions to contemporary works, she has a passion for connecting people, the arts, and ideas through music. She has been an active advocate for the arts and education, serving on the Washington State American Choral Directors Association since 2012. She currently directs the Allegra level of the Seattle Girls' Choir, and she teaches chorus and international performing arts in Seattle Public Schools.
JANELLE MURRAY, Accompanist
Janelle Murray is a passionate solo and collaborative pianist with fifteen years of piano experience. She is in her junior year at Seattle Pacific University, and hopes to teach music in the Pacific Northwest upon her graduation from SPU's Music Education program. In addition to her studies, Janelle is a piano accompanist for several different choral ensembles in Seattle including Ancora Choir, the McClure Middle School choirs, the United Evangelical Free Church choir, and the Norwegian Ladies Chorus of Seattle, and she is also greatly involved in the constant activity of SPU's music department.
