Person Centered Thinking Training (This course fulfills the 12-hour PCT training requirement)

Person Centered Thinking (PCT) training serves as a foundation and philosophical framework for everyone who is involved in supporting people with disabilities. This activity-filled, 2-day training consists of applied stories, guided exercises, group work and discussion, wherein the participants acquire core skills in person centered thinking such as:

-The importance of listening to how people want to be supported to have the life they want
-Discovering, sorting and recording what is important to a person and what is important for a person
-Respectfully assisting people to address significant issues of health or safety while supporting their individual choice and control
-Core responsibilities for those who provide support; when judgment and creativity is expected; what is outside the responsibility of paid staff
-Matching staff for optimum support
-Documenting what we learn

Successful implementation of person centered plans is more likely where staff members have participated in this training. The training in person centered thinking is recommended for all paid staff including those who are in administrative, management, direct and support roles.

Trainers: Pam Sword Halsey and Ashley Canupp are both employed by CenterPoint Human Services and are certified PCT Trainers through The Learning Community.
