TeatroSAlon Showase
The Guadalupe presents new teatro by San Antonio playwrights and teatristas at the TeatroSAlon Showcase on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:00pm.
Local playwrights, performers and ensembles take the historic Guadalupe Theater stage and present an evening of staged readings and workshop performances of new works. From drama and comedy to experimental and spoken word, this Teatro SAlon will showcase both emerging talent and veterans of the San Antonio teatro scene.
Guadalupe director of performance Joel Settles hopes the open call for submission process allows for an authentic and organic diversity of narrative, stylistic, and cultural voices to emerge from the community.
"This program will allow both emerging and established playwrights an opportunity to see their work staged and allow them to determine what the next steps are for their work and their professional development," Settles said. "It gives actors and directors and chance to continue developing their craft and improving on stage while making a manageable commitment to the project."
Teatro SAlon is open to participants of all cultural backgrounds and experience levels while placing an emphasis on new works that explore, celebrate, challenge, and further define the Latino, Chicano, and Native American experience.

"People can expect to laugh, cringe, cry, maybe be provoked, maybe be comforted, in short a wide spectrum of human emotions because all of the plays are so different," Settles added. "This showcase is a true reflection of what people in our community are experiencing and grappling with. It is going to be an honest, heartfelt and entertaining evening of theatre."
