Tim Connell is well-known to acoustic music fans as a top-tier, virtuoso mandolinist, touring internationally with Mike Marshall's Ger Mandolin Orchestra and several of his own projects including Rio Con Brio and Stumptown Swing.
Tim has also spent many years putting together a set of solo arrangements for the mandolin, from Brazilian choros to Irish jigs, from Beatles to Broadway.
Tim couples these flights of expert picking with heartfelt American songs, giving audiences an intimate window into his virtuosic yet emotional style and his deep passion for music and life.
About Tim:
A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music and a virtuoso mandolinist with over twenty years professional performing experience, Tim Connell has created a sophisticated and original global style on the mandolin. Widely regarded as one of the top North American interpreters of the Brazilian choro style on the mandolin, Tim has also developed his own unique voice for the instrument, described in a recent Mandolin Magazine cover story as "fiery and energetic, soulful and evocative."

Rio Con Brio captivates audiences around the country with their intimate performance of the beautiful and esoteric Brazilian repertoire known as choro, the early 20th Century street music of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Influenced by equal parts Afro-Brazilian rhythms and the contemporary cafe music of Italy, France, Spain and Portugal, choro is both exotic and familiar, evoking in turn the carnival of Rio and the cafés of Paris.
Guitarist Mike Burdette and mandolinist Tim Connell exhibit finesse and passion in their playing, while displaying a sincere love of the choro repertoire and connection to their audience. An evening with Rio Con Brio is a delightful tour of European and New World music as experienced by the mandolin and guitar and as told by two soulful, intelligent, modern musicians - a beautiful intersection of Brazilian rhythm, classical technique and jazz improvisation.
