Power of Acceptance: Invitation, Adaptation, and Rest
In numerous sources that focus on human potential, a context of acceptance is seen as the key to wisdom and personal fulfillment. The transformative power of acceptance also plays a central role in Dr. Neufeld's parenting philosophy.
Over 35 years of experience making sense of children from the inside out has led Dr. Neufeld to the conclusion that the central constructs of "Invitation," "Adaptation," and "Rest" are three of the most essential conditions parents must provide in order for children to truly mature; to provide these, a context of basic acceptance is a pre-requisite.
This talk will explore why Invitation, Adaptation, and Rest are so important to the developing child, what it looks like to provide these in practical terms, and the pivotal role acceptance plays, not only for our children, but also in the unfolding of human potential as a whole.
Cindy Leavitt, MSW is a faculty member of The Neufeld Institute. Her lifelong passion has been understanding, navigating, and facilitating the process of human growth; she is particularly versed in the convergence between developmental psychology and traditional spiritual understanding. She lives in Bozeman, Montana and offers parent consultation, individual and couples counseling, couples intensives, and presentations on Dr. Neufeld's parenting philosophy to parents, educators, and mental health professionals both locally and long distance. Cindy is a mother of three and it is in her own family that Dr Neufeld's work most informs her life.
