Dance in Nature
Join us for a day of dancing in the beautiful Point Reyes natural environment. Ignite your creative energy in connection with the inspirational elements of nature. Slow down, unleash your artistic potential, tap into your inner wildness and engage in play with others. This workshop will introduce the practice of somatic based dancing with the natural environment. We will explore our body senses in connection with the elements of wind, water, sand, wood and earth. This work cultivates a state of heightened sensory awareness, inner emotional understanding and inspires the imagination.
"Clearly there is a close and ancient rapport between humans and the natural environment. We have become too separate from this innate relationship and we suffer because of this ... reconnecting to nature will lend us a vocabulary for our art and our lives ... It is my hope that this experiential contact with nature will move us towards a deeper understanding of the scarcity of the earth and our place upon it." ~ Anna Halprin
No experience necessary. All levels welcome.
Joy Cosculluela and Iu-Hui Chua, dance practitioners, performers and educators experienced in dancing in nature for over 15 years, share their excitement and passion in this day-long workshop.
Joy and Iu-Hui met dancing for Anna Halprin's Sea Ranch Collective in 2004. Together they have collaborated in a variety of site specific based performances and performed their work at the YBCA, Stanford University, Red Poppy Arthouse, Mountain Home Studio, Sea Ranch, Apature, Women on the Way Festival and the San Francisco Art Institute.
