We're excited to announce Vox Vineyards' first ever Grand Tasting. You might quite naturally ask: What's a "Grand Tasting?" In short, it is an event you won't want to miss, an opportunity to taste some rare and special bottles from Jerry Eisterhold's private cellar - wines made here of course, but just as importantly wines from around the world that we look to as guides in our quest to make truly remarkable representations of the Missouri terroir. To explain more fully we'll have to delve into the history of Vox For as long as Jerry has been researching the history of American grape cultivars, research which has led to the collecting of over 60 varieties in our six acre vineyard, he has loved and collected great wines. His taste has ranged from Old World to New, from stalwart ancient houses to up-and-coming stars... Meanwhile, Vox Vineyards has grown, from a one-man project to a small bustling crew. To keep our standards high and our love of wine fresh, we like to open bottles with the crew and compare notes. By making comparisons we calibrate our senses. We refine our understanding of the decisions, the constraints, even the caprices of the weather, that affect a wine on its long journey from the vine to the lips of the taster. We cultivate, in these sessions (which sometimes start a little serious, but always loosen up...) our "house" language for describing wine, and some welcome camaraderie too. For the first time ever, on October 15, we'll open the in-house tasting to friends and fans. The theme of our first Grand Tasting will be "Ripeness & Style - a Study in Contrasts." We will feature Cabernet Savignon from Napa legends Caymus and Cathy Corison; Gewürztraminer from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht of Alsace and Novarro Vineyards of California's Anderson Valley; and at least two other pairings that will help us -- and our guests -- gain a deeper understanding of the wine we make here at Vox Vineyards.
