"Word Walk: Writing As A Naturalist": Writing Workshop with Naturalist Lara Tupper
Naturalist Henry David Thoreau did his best thinking (or pre-writing) while rambling through the Massachusetts woods. Participants in "Word Walk: Writing as a Naturalist" will dip into classic poems and essays on nature, take in the beauty of the surrounding grounds, and engage in creative writing exercises designed to cultivate awareness. This writing workshop includes a gentle stroll, during which you'll soak in fresh air and new ideas for writing time spent indoors. No prior writing experience necessary, just a willingness to observe. Please bring shoes suitable for sauntering, a journal and your favorite pen.
As a result of taking this workshop, participants will: Enjoy time outside. Discuss the works of naturalist prose writers and poets such as Robert Frost, Mary Oliver and Thoreau as inspiration for their own writing. Complete a series of writing exercises designed to stir the five senses, rejuvenate the spirit, and reconnect with the natural world. Have an opportunity to share their work in a safe, supportive space. Develop ideas for future writing projects and discuss strategies for maintaining a writing practice at home.
