Rock the Balut!
We invite you to join us at our annual event:  Rock the Balut:  Celebrating our Civic Engagement Partners with an Evening of Political Comedy, Friday, May 18, 2012  at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center.

The program includes: short presentation to honorees, political sketch comedy and stand-up, trivia games, dinner and refreshments.

Since our inception in 1973 Filipino Advocates for Justice, has been a tireless advocate for immigrant and civil rights. Throughout our history we have been committed to making the democratic process more inclusive for immigrants and the Filipino community.

Our accomplishments are due in large part to many community partnerships. Like FAJ, immigrant communities and their advocates have been investing in the potential of this political strength, and at our 39th Anniversary celebration we will honor the civic engagement and voter mobilization accomplishments of some of our key partners:

Asian Law Caucus for their civil rights leadership particularly around voter protection; Congregations Organizing for Renewal for their grassroots organizing and voter engagement in the faith community;
Mobilize the Immigrant Vote for building voter engagement and mobilization capacity in immigrant communities state-wide; and
Mujeres Unidas y Activas for developing and inspiring leadership among immigrant women in the campaign for a California Domestic Worker Bill of Rights.

But even politics has its funny side. Our celebration will include an irreverent poke at the political terrain through the lens of comedy. The evening's entertainment will showcase performances by stand-up comics Nato Green from Laughter Against the Machine and Bindelstiff Director Allan Manalo and feature a political musical comedy sketch by Nice Hat -- a group of misfit actors and actresses from the 99% of stage and screen.

Support Filipino Advocates for Justice's civic engagement work by becoming a sponsor, placing an ad in the souvenir booklet, or both.  The deadline for ads and sponsorship is April 15th, 2012.  (Contact us at 510.465.9876 for details)

As an event sponsor your organization can expect to gain visibility in the Filipino, nonprofit and business communities.  You will also have an opportunity to network with leaders from labor, faith communities, the legal sector and foundations, as well as artists and activists.

If you have any questions about sponsorship or about FAJ's work please contact Judith Olais at 510-465-9876 or visit our website www.filipinos4justice.org.

Your contribution helps FAJ carry out our mission to build a strong and empowered Filipino community by organizing constituents, developing leaders, providing services, and advocating for policies that promote social and economic justice and equity.

On behalf of the staff and board of Filipino Advocates for Justice, we THANK YOU in advance for your support and look forward to seeing you Friday, May 18th.
