Featuring saxophonist Danny Mekonnen and drummer Adam Clark of Boston's own Ethiopian groove innovators Debo Band, Wax & Gold is inspired by the large ensemble funk of 1970s Ethiopia at the heart of Debo Band's repertoire. Blending original compositions, improvisations, and pared-down Ethiopian pop songs, the group seeks a dialogue with their favorite great saxophone-drum duos: John Coltrane & Rashied Ali, Dewey Redman & Ed Blackwell, Getachew Mekuria & Katherina Bornefeld, to name a few. $12 advance / $15 door
