Event
BGM #3 Meditation and Addiction with Dr Gemma Beckley and Author Tim Bennett
It's time for another Big Group Meditation right in the heart of Central London!
These events are becoming increasingly popular. By meditating with hundreds of people we not only experience huge personal benefits in our practice but we help our society by creating brainwave coherence in the environment and reducing crime and hatred as indicated by a huge body of scientific research. That's right! By meditating together we contribute massively to creating world peace!
Every meditation practice is welcome and if you don't have one you'll be instructed in a simple mindfulness technique to join in the big group meditation. This is a great way to introduce your friends and family to meditation.
This time we are joined by Dr. Gemma Beckley and Author Tim Bennett who will discuss the benefits of meditation on drug addiction recovery.
Dr Gemma Beckley, Clinical Psychologist and teacher of Transcendental Meditation (TM) for the Meditation Trust, will give a brief talk about how TM helps with recovery from addiction. She will draw on her knowledge of both modern psychology and its ancient Vedic counterpart, with reference to scientific research.
Tim will be sharing how TM helped to consolidate his recovery and how it helped with the personal transformation which rehab triggered. Tim's new book, Awaken, is a fiction novel inspired by his experience of recovery from drug addiction and ensuing spiritual awakening in Cape Town. His work is divided between social work with disabled children and providing healing-meditation sessions to others recovering from addiction. In addition to writing in his spare time, he studies the ancient spiritual practice of shamanism with two of the most eminent teachers in this field. He's also devoted to his daily programme of Transcendental Meditation and the advance TM Siddhi practice.
Following the talk there will be an optional second round of meditation. You are advised to check in with yourself and make sure you feel up for a second round. Such is the power of these group meditations that it could result in a strong stress release.
To conclude the night we'll be having teas and coffees. The event is free. We will accept donations to support the cost of the venue and our charitable projects.
Please get a free ticket so that we are aware of numbers.
