Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry
Studio Theatre of Bath is delighted to bring Alfred Jarry's masterpiece "Ubu Roi" to Midcoast Maine. "Ubu" is one of the foundation stones on which are built all of the avant-garde art of the 20th and 21st centuries. First performed in Paris in 1896, "Ubu" takes Shakespeare's "Macbeth", "Hamlet", and "Julius Ceasar" and mashes them into an insane parody of greed and malice run amok. Theater folk are especially fond of the chance to completely let their hair down in this maddening non-stop farce and the play is almost always in production somewhere in the world by both professional and college theaters. Before The Marx Brothers, before Lucy and Desi, before Rocky Horror, before Monty Python, there was King Ubu- "Ubu Roi." Parents be warned: Contains murder, mayhem and the occasional "scatological reference". Ubu is directed by Howard Waxman. Ubu runs October 22-25th 2015 at the Winter St Center. 880 Washington St Bath, ME 04530. All shows 7:30pm.
