The next film in our series of food documentaries tackles the massive food waste problem in our country:

Inspired by a curiosity about our country's careless habit of sending food straight to landfills, the multi award-winning documentary DIVE! follows filmmaker Jeremy Seifert and friends as they dumpster dive in the back alleys and gated garbage receptacles of Los Angeles' supermarkets. In the process, they salvage thousands of dollars worth of good, edible food - resulting in an inspiring documentary that is equal parts entertainment, guerrilla journalism and call to action.

After the movie, local food activist, Rachel Horn will be around to moderate a discussion. Rachel has worked with the Children's Garden at the Berkeley Youth Alternative, part of Student Organic Gardening Association and Agrariana, which puts on food tradition workshops, and helps organize farm-and-food-related speaker panels. Now, with Dive!, Rachel's working on their "Eat Trash" campaign to get super market food 'waste' to food banks and people who need it.

Christian Levaggi a senior representative from Recology will also a moderator. Recology is an integrated resource recovery company that provides collection, recycling, compost and disposal services to homes and businesses in the Western United States including San Francisco.
